Fall Camps

BADM offers various school-year camps for children ages 4 – 8. Fall Discovery Camps include Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, and Thanksgiving Week. Discovery Camps provide child-directed, inquiry driven learning through project-based, hands-on activities designed to intentionally boost creativity, STEM skills, and critical thinking. Children come away with the skills and tools to support lifelong discoveries.

Columbus Day Camp (October 10)

Ages: 4 – 8

9 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Extended Care 2 – 4 p.m.

Camp Theme: Real Tools, Really Fun

In Real Tools, Really Fun, campers experiment with various tools used for gardening, cooking, engineering, science experiments, and art projects. Children build fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and problem-solving skills through hands-on gardening, tinkering with old electronics, and exploration of art media and tools. Families receive email communication each week summarizing the campers’ unique experiences.

Price: $125 for general admission; $100 for Supporting Family Members; $50 per day for extended care

Veteran’s Day Camp (November 11)

November 11, 2016

Ages: 4- 8

9 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Extended Care 2 – 4 p.m.

Camp Theme: Geology: Dig Deeper

In Geology: Dig Deeper, campers dig, sift, and investigate rocks, minerals, crystals, and fossils through hands-on exploration of the earth. Children learn geology basics, including recording and sharing findings, and using tools like rock hammers, magnifying glasses, paintbrushes, and clay. Families receive email communication each week summarizing the campers’ unique experiences.

Price: $125 for general admission; $100 for Supporting Family Members; $50 per day for extended care

Thanksgiving Week Camp (November 21 – 23)

November 21 – 23, 2016

Ages: 4 – 8

9 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Extended Care 2 – 4 p.m.

Camp Theme: Fab Lab Illuminations

In Fab Lab Illuminations, campers learn how to design and build various lighting pieces like lamps and night-lights in our Fab Lab, a high-tech maker space. Using materials like LED lights, battery packs, laser cutters, and cellophane, children engineer light-up toys, shadow puppets, and circuits. Families receive email communication each week summarizing the campers’ unique experiences.

Price: $330 for general admission (includes $15 materials fee); $305 for Supporting Family Members (includes $15 materials fee); $50 per day for extended care

Camp Policy

Cancellations: There is a basic $50 cancellation fee per camp/per child assessed to all customer requested refunds at any time. Camp fees are 50% refundable (less the basic cancellation fee noted above) if requested up to 3 weeks before the start of the session in which your child is enrolled. No refunds will be given after that time.

Scholarships for Discovery Camps

The Bay Area Discovery Museum is committed to removing the barriers some families face in accessing high-quality, educational experiences for their children both in and out of school. A limited number of partial scholarships are available based on financial need. Scholarships are awarded on a sliding scale and a first-come, first-served basis.
