It’s been a busy time for us at the Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM)! After months of strategic planning and discussions, we are excited to announce that we updated our mission statement to better align to our work and unique approach as a museum. Here it is:
The Bay Area Discovery Museum’s mission is to transform research into early learning experiences that inspire creative problem solving.
This means you can continue to expect the highest quality learning experiences at BADM, knowing they are grounded in research best practices with the intention of helping your child develop creative problem solving skills.
Why the focus on creative problem solving? We believe creative problem solving –the flexibility, persistence, and openness to generate and apply unique solutions – is a critical skill best learned in early childhood when brain development is at its peak. And too often the experiences we know support creative problem solving – such as STEM activities – are missing from early childhood education.
At BADM, STEM runs through everything we do, and we know how to make it developmentally appropriate and fun – it starts with capes and robots at STEM Superhero Series, kicking off March 4. The four-part festival celebrates the power of every child to use their problem solving skills to improve the future. We hope to see you there. And save the date for our spring family gala fundraiser, A Night on the Town, on May 13!
Thank you for your continued support of BADM and I look forward to seeing you around the museum!
