Scheduling a Visit
Do I need a reservation to come to the museum with a school group?
If you are planning to visit BADM with 10 or more children we require a reservation be made at least one month in advance. Registration for the 2016-2017 school year opens on August 15, 2016. Reservations are accepted for the entire school year at that time. We strongly encourage you to submit your reservation request as early as possible to ensure your ideal visit date is available for your group.
How do I make a reservation?
To make a reservation, please submit a reservation request form for the school visit program of your choice. All reservation request forms and scholarship applications can be found on our website, starting on August 15, 2016.
Once you submit your request, a museum staff member will contact you within 14 days. Your school visit is not scheduled until you receive a confirmation email from a museum staff member.
What is the cost of a school visit to the museum?
A self-guided Discover-It-Yourself school visit is $9 per student. We provide complementary admission for one adult for every five students. Additional adults also receive the discounted admission rate of $9 per person.
The cost for a facilitated STEM Workshop is $250. This includes admission to the museum for all students and one adult for every five students, and a 45 to 60 minute workshop on a STEM topic of your choosing. Additional adults also receive the discounted admission rate of $9 per person. Additional material fees apply to certain topics. Click here for more information on STEM Workshops and pricing.
The cost for a facilitated STEM Intensive is $30 per student. This includes a sequence of three facilitated workshops: an initial workshop in your classroom, a workshop at the museum with admission for all students and adults, and a final workshop in your classroom. Click here for more information on STEM Intensive school visits and pricing.
For all school visit programs, every student receives a coupon for discounted admission for a future museum visit.
Do you offer scholarships?

Payment of the remaining balance for your visit is due no later than the day of the event. Failure to pay the balance by the end of your visit will result in a $50 late fee. We update the number of students and adults on the day of your visit, which may affect your balance.

If paying by credit card, please call (415) 339-3963. At this time we do not accept credit card payments online. Before Your Visit
What if my number of students or chaperones changes?
If your numbers have changed significantly (+/- 10 people) please call (415) 339-3963 to confirm there is enough staff capacity to accommodate the change. Otherwise, there is no need to update your reservation before the day of your school visit. We update the number of students and adults on the day of your visit. Please note this may affect your balance due.
Why does my class have to split up into small groups of no more than five children when we explore the museum?
Experience informs us that children and adults get the most out of their experience in small groups. The active, exploratory, child-directed learning environment our museum setting provides can be better supported in smaller groups. Additionally, many of our indoor spaces can quickly fill up, so exploring in small groups helps to prevent overcrowding in any one exhibition space. When you arrive at the museum you will be expected to break up and explore the museum in these small groups.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancellations must be made more than 30 days in advance to receive a full refund. While we do our best to accommodate unanticipated circumstances, fees may be applied for events cancelled less than 30 days in advance. Cancellations made less than 14 days in advance will be charged the full amount.
Day of Your Visit
What if it rains?
Our 7.5-acre indoor and outdoor site is open rain or shine. Weather conditions can change quickly in Sausalito. Please check the forecast and remind your students and families to dress for the weather. While we do our best to accommodate unanticipated circumstances, fees may be applied for events cancelled due to weather.
Where can we eat lunch?
There are many outdoor picnic tables available across our site. Groups who choose to eat lunch during their pre-registered visit must do so before their scheduled departure time. You may choose to maximize your exploration time in the museum and opt to eat a picnic lunch after your departure on the beautiful National Park Service land right outside our gates.
Why can’t my group go inside Tot Spot?
Tot Spot is an exhibition area reserved for infants, crawlers, and early walkers. In order to provide a safe and welcoming environment for the youngest museum visitors, school groups are not permitted to enter this exhibition.
Can my group stay past our scheduled departure time?
All school visits are scheduled to enter and depart the site at a specific time in order to maintain a museum-wide experience capacity. While we will do our best to accommodate unanticipated circumstances, early entry and late departures cannot be guaranteed.
