When does registration open for Summer Discovery Camps?
General registration for the public opens on February 14, 2017. We offer early registration for Bay Area Discovery Museum Members, which are listed below. On the specified registration dates, members will receive an email with a special access code in the morning.
- January 31, 2017: Registration opens for BADM Donor Circle Members (Grandparent Circle Members, Discovery Circle Members, and Creativity Circle Members)
- February 7, 2017: Registration opens for BADM Supporting Family Members
- February 14, 2017: ￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼Registration opens for BADM Family Members and general public
What time does Summer Discovery Camps run?
All Summer Discovery Camps run from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Extended care is available for an extra fee from 8 – 9 a.m. and 1 – 4 p.m.
Do you offer extended care?
Yes, we offer extended care both before and after Discovery Camp so you can have a stress-free day! Before camp, you can drop children off anytime between 8 and 9 a.m., and after camp, you can pick children up any time between 1 and 4 p.m. The fees for extended care are:
- 8 – 9 a.m.: $ 15 per day or $50 per week
- 1 – 4 p.m.: $ 50 per day or $175 per week
Where do Summer Discovery Camps take place?
Camp takes place at the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito, located at Fort Baker, 557 McReynolds Road, Sausalito, CA 94965. We also offer two camps at the Marin Art & Garden Center, located at 30 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Ross, CA 94957. When registering, please make sure you select the location you are interested in.
How do I register for summer Discovery Camps?
Once registration is open, you can register and purchase camp online through the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s website. From the summer camps webpage, click on the “Register Now” button. You will need to create a Thriva account to purchase camps. Once you create an account, you will be able to select camps and extended care and checkout online.
What is a typical day of summer camp like?
Campers enjoy a jam-packed day of fun! Here is a sample schedule of their day:
8:45 – 9 a.m.: Drop-off
9 – 10:30 a.m.: Indoor exploration and project work
10:30 – 10:45 a.m.: Snack*
10:45 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Museum and outdoor exploration
12 – 12:45 p.m.: Lunch*
12:45 – 1 p.m.: Pick-up
* Daily snack and lunch not provided, campers must bring their own lunch
How does camp drop-off and pick-up work?
For camps held at the Bay Area Discovery Museum, you drop off and pick up campers in the horseshoe driveway by the main entrance to the museum. Camp staff is stationed at the driveway to greet you. For pick up, an authorized adult must show a photo ID and sign children out.
Who runs Summer Discovery Camps at Marin Art & Garden Center?
You can expect the same high-quality Discovery Camp programming, led by Bay Area Discovery Museum Educators at Marin Art & Garden Center in Ross.
What happens if I don’t pick up my child on time from camp?
There is an additional $1 per minute late pick-up fee for all children remaining more than five minutes past their registered pick-up time. This fee applies to all emergencies without exception.
Do you offer scholarships for summer camps?
Yes, scholarships are available based on financial need. Scholarships are awarded on a sliding scale and a first-come, first-served basis. To apply for a scholarship, please fill out the online scholarship form here: English, Spanish, Chinese.
What is your refund policy?
Discovery Camp fees are fully refundable if cancellation is requested three weeks prior to the start date of the Discovery Camp. After that time, a 50% refund is given. A $50 fee per Discovery Camp is charged for canceling registration. The Bay Area Discovery Museum reserves the right to cancel camps that are not fully enrolled, and will issue a full refund in such cases.
Do you have a wait list?
Yes. If a Discovery Camp you are interested in is full, please sign up for the wait list online. If an opening becomes available, Discovery Camp staff will contact you immediately.
