Celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Bay Area Discovery Museum

Join us in February for BADM’s annual celebration of the Chinese New Year

Sausalito, CA– February at the Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) is marked by exciting events. At the beginning of the month, on February 7, BADM is hosting Harvard-educated researcher Joan Kelley for a free talk discussing the importance of growing strong readers, and how parents can help their children toward this goal. Then, on February 19, BADM kicks off the year of the dog with the return of our annual Chinese New Year celebration. Read more about February events below!

A Free Talk Discusses Growing Strong Readers
Curious about ways you can help your child become a strong reader? Join us on Wednesday, February 7, for a free talk presented by researcher Joan Kelley. Kelley’s talk, tilted Growing Strong Readers: What the Science Tells Us and How We Can Help, explores what it takes for a child to become a successful reader, and what parents can do to support that goal. Kelley will share tips, open up the discussion to the audience, and answer parent questions.
BADM will host Joan Kelley’s free talk on Wednesday, February 7, from 6-7 p.m.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year at BADM!
On Monday, February 19, the vibrant traditions of the Chinese New Year will be on full display at BADM. Take advantage of this day without school and drop in on our full schedule of programming and performances. This event is presented in partnership with Marin Chinese Cultural Association. The day’s activities include:

  • Marin Chinese Cultural Association Lion Dance Team performances
  • Calligraphy demonstrations with take-home keepsakes
  • 10,000 Victories Kung Fu School martial arts demonstrations
  • Lantern making in BADM’s Fab Lab
  • And much more!

Celebrate the Chinese New Year at BADM on Monday, February 19 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

February Drop-In Programs
Any day is a good day for exploration at BADM! Our science, technology, engineering, and math programs encourage children to grow their curiosity through hands-on activities. In February, children can learn more about how they make words and sounds through an exploration of linguistics, or discover basic mechanics by building and testing gear systems. BADM’s February drop-in programs combine innovative learning with creativity and include STEM Programs and Art Programs.

Plan Ahead for Summer! Register for BADM’s Discovery Camps
The creative learning and exploration that happens every day at BADM comes to life in a new way over the summer! During week-long Discovery Camp sessions, children get the chance to engage in hands-on activities that are designed to boost STEM skills, improve critical thinking, and, of course, be fun! With new themes, improved offerings, and stand out staff, 2018 is sure to be the best summer yet! Registration opens to all in February, so mark your calendar now!
