How to Book a School Visit Program
All programs require a registration to be made at least one month in advance. Registration for the 2017-2018 school year opens on August 14th, 2017 and reservations are accepted for the entire school year at that time. We strongly encourage you to submit your reservation request as early as possible to ensure your ideal program or visit date is available for your group.
Registrations will only be accepted online through our website. To make a reservation, click here. Once your reservation has been scheduled in our system, our staff will send a reservation confirmation email with details about your visit.
Following a scheduled program or visit, every participating child receives a coupon for discounted admission for a future museum visit.
Programs at BADM
If you are planning to visit BADM with 10 or more students, a reservation is required. To ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors, BADM requires all groups to maintain a minimum supervisory ration of one adult for every five students, and students must be accompanied by adults at all times. We reserve the right to turn away visitors who do not comply with this 1:5 adult-to-student ratio.
School Visit programs at BADM are available for formal California school groups. If you are not associated with a school, but are interested in bringing a group of children to the Bay Area Discovery Museum, please reach out to email@example.com for more information on Group Visits.
Due to the intimate and hands-on nature of our site, the maximum group size that we can accommodate is 80 students. School groups will be asked to split into smaller groups of no more than five students while exploring the museum.
For groups of students with special needs, there is no minimum group size and all adults are complimentary to ensure that all students are able to access and engage with our site.
Programs at Your Site
For STEM Workshops and Try It Truck programs visiting schools, we require at least two sessions of the same program to be booked on the same day for each site.
No travel fee is required for events held within 25 miles of the museum. For events help beyond 25 miles, a travel fee is applied to the total balance for your event.
BADM requires all programs to have a minimum of 4 adult volunteers to support the students’ learning. We welcome additional adults to participate in our programs at your site, and all adults are complimentary.
Deposits: A $50 deposit for school visits is required at least one month prior to your visit and is applied to the total cost of your program.
Paying for Your Deposit: Once you receive your confirmation email, you can pay your deposit or full balance by credit card or check.
- Credit Card: At this time we cannot accept credit cards online. Information on how to pay your balance will be provided in your confirmation email.
- Check: Checks can be made out to the Bay Area Discovery Museum. Be sure to include your visit date and school name in the notes section. Mail checks to:

Paying for Your Balance: Payment of the balance for your program is due no later than the day of the event. We do not accept cash payments or purchase orders. We understand that numbers of student and adult participants in programs change, so we update your balance due on the day of your program. Failure to pay the balance by the day of your visit will result in a $50 late fee.
BADM memberships, passes, coupons, groupons, or other discounted tickets will not be accepted for school programs. School programs are taken on behalf of the school, and already receive discounted admission.
Travel Surcharge: No travel fee is required for events held within 25 miles of the museum. For STEM Workshops held beyond 25 miles from the museum and Try It Truck programs held beyond 40 miles from the museum, a travel fee is applied to the total balance due.
Cancelling and Rescheduling
Cancellations must be made more than 30 days in advance to receive a full refund. Fees will be applied for events cancelled less than 30 days in advance or for visits rescheduled within 14 days of the program date. Cancellations made less than 14 days in advance will be charged the full amount.
BADM is a rain or shine location, so programs will proceed as scheduled unless the museum closes due to extreme weather or hazardous conditions. If the museum closes, a full refund will be issued. While we do our best to accommodate unanticipated circumstances, fees will be applied to groups who cancel scheduled programs due to weather.
BADM is committed to removing the barriers some families face in accessing high-quality, educational experiences for their children both in and out of school. Scholarships are available for all of our school programs. Preschools serving more than 40% of families through child-care subsidies and elementary schools serving more than 40% of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch are encouraged to apply when submitting their reservation request online.
