CREATE - This workshop will lead participants through the CREATE framework - six components of creative learning environments, as revealed through a review of developmental, cognitive psychology, and education research. Participants will leave with both practical ideas to implement in your work with children ages 0-10, as well as a theoretical understanding of what is important to develop creative problem-solving skills.

Exploratory Learning – This workshop will focus on how to provide exploratory learning opportunities with your programs using the CREATE framework. Exploratory learning (“E”) is one of the six concepts that make up this unique pedagogical framework.

This workshop will on how to provide risk-friendly learning opportunities in educational settings using the CREATE framework. Risk-friendly learning (“R”) is one of the six concepts that make up this unique pedagogical framework.

This workshop will review the research behind growth and fixed mindset. Participants will reflect on their own mindset and how that affects their work with the children and families they serve.

This workshop will review the findings about the skills that matter most for success in school and life. Based on our Reimagining School Readiness paper, this interactive workshop will discuss research findings and introduce participants to BADM’s Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit -- a suite of research-backed resources originally created for librarians to help families prepare children ages 0 to 8 for success. The Toolkit  is available in its entirety for free online, and has proven to be a valuable resource, not just for librarians, but for other educators as well as caregivers.

This session will review the research behind the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s research publication The Roots of STEM Success, including the rationale for the importance of laying the foundation for STEM education in the early years. The workshop will provide practical ideas that educators can take back to their institutions.

This session will build on research that demonstrates the importance of play in child and adult development to incorporate play into programs and family engagement.
