Equity and Inclusion
The Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Diversity, Equity, Access and Inclusion statement from the Board of Directors.

The Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Board and staff believe that engaging, reflecting and including diverse races, ethnicities, identities, perspectives and life experiences on our Board and in our staff is essential to delivering on our mission.

We believe it takes intentional and sustained commitment, resources and work, over time, to ensure that everyone – the families we serve, museum staff and trustees – feel welcomed, valued, respected and supported to participate fully.

More diverse and inclusive leadership and staff will allow us to create meaningful, relevant outcomes for the families and communities we aspire to serve and is critical to the effectiveness and sustainability of our organization.   We believe that by building the capacity to understand, communicate, and collaborate across differences both internally and externally, we will be better equipped to welcome, reflect, engage, and serve the full diversity of people in our community, particularly low-income communities and communities of color.

We believe the Board has a responsibility, in partnership with the staff, to do the individual and collective work to acknowledge and then transform the systems that perpetuate barriers to participation that persist at the museum and across cultural organizations.
