Girl Scouts Engineering Challenges

You're the Engineer!

Girls will use Zoom to interact LIVE with a BADM educator as they Think, Make, Try® to design cars, roller coasters and airplanes!

These engineering challenges are Girl Scouts NorCal Badge Programs where your Brownies and Daisies can earn qualifications for their Mechanical Engineering badges.

Looking for a custom experience?

Email camps@BADM.org to book a custom date and time for your Troop. Minimum 8 scouts ($176).

For Daisies:

Model Car

Start your engines! Girls will design and build their own model cars, wheels and axles out of household materials. After assembling our cars, we will make observations and improvements to our cars as we test them out on an incline.

  • Times: Sunday, April 18 & May 16 at 1:30 p.m. (1-hour)
  • Pricing: $22 (badge can be purchased separately)
  • Badge: Mechanical Engineering: Model Car

Roller Coaster Riders

Conquer thrilling theme park rides from home. Girls will design a marble roller coaster with household materials. After building your loopy tracks, test your roller coaster with a marble and experiment with motion, speed and gravity and observe how friction affects the roller coaster.

  • Times: Sunday, May 9 at 1:30 p.m. (1-hour)
  • Pricing: $22 (badge can be purchased separately)
  • Badge: Mechanical Engineering: Roller Coaster Riders

For Brownies:

Fling Flyers

Take to the sky! Girls will bring their plane designs to life using household materials. Once your plane is assembled, test multiple variables observe how changes to physics affect your glider.

  • Times: Sunday, April 25 & May 23 at 1:30 p.m. (1-hour)
  • Pricing: $22 (badge can be purchased separately)
  • Badge: Mechanical Engineering: Fling Flyers

Race Car

Calling all racers to the track! Girls will use household materials to design a custom car body, wheels and axles. After designing your creation, test your fast machine on a series of surfaces and experiment with adding weights and other elements to improve the way the car performs and learn how variables such as friction affect the car.

  • Times: Sunday, May 2 & May 30 at 1:30 p.m. (1-hour)
  • Pricing: $22 (badge can be purchased separately)
  • Badge: Mechanical Engineering: Race Car
