Your privacy is important to us at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. We are committed to safeguarding personal information collected online and to helping parents and children exercise control over personal information while exploring the Internet. We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with anyone else, nor do we send mailings on behalf of other organizations. Our information collection practices are described below in greater detail. We urge kids to check with their parents before entering information on any website and we urge parents to discuss with their kids restrictions regarding the online release of personal information to anyone they don’t know.
Our Commitment to Our Donors
We will not sell, share, or trade our donors’ names or personal information with any other entity, nor send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations.
This policy applies to all information received by the Bay Area Discovery Museum, both online and offline, on any platform, as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications.
To the extent any donations are processed through a third-party service provider, our donors’ information will only be used for purposes necessary to process the donation.
What Information is Collected?
At the Bay Area Discovery Museum, it is our policy to create website content that requires the minimum collection of information from our visitors. No personal information is collected from our users unless the user chooses to provide such information. Registration is not required to access any information or participate in any activities on our site, and you can visit our website without providing any personally identifiable information (such as name, address, email address, or telephone number) about yourself.
Certain areas of our website allow parents and guardians the opportunity to voluntarily provide personal information about themselves and their children in order to become Bay Area Discovery Museum members or learn more about the Bay Area Discovery Museum. For example, the membership link allows parents and guardians to become new members or renew memberships online. Registering to become a member or renewing a membership online requires the disclosure of your name, e-mail, phone number and address, and also requires a credit card number. We also ask parents and guardians to provide the names and birthdays of the children in their households. Through our website, social media channels, and email marketing system, we offer visitors the chance to opt in to our email marketing communications. This requires the disclosure of an email address and name. Optional information that visitors can provide includes (but is not limited to) child names and ages, and other preferences. Our “Registration Form,” which is filled out to reserve museum space for activities such as a birthday party, requires disclosure of your contact information and a credit card number.
From time to time, we may also conduct online surveys or contests. If the online survey or contest is directed at adults, it may ask visitors for contact information (such as an email address) and demographic information. The user’s contact information is also used to contact the visitor when necessary. You may always opt-out of receiving future contact from the Bay Area Discovery Museum, as described in more detail in the “Choice/Opt-Out” section below.
If the online survey or contest is directed at children, it will not request more information that the responding child’s name and the contact information for a parent or guardian of the child. Before further communication with the child, we will contact the parent or guardian of the child to obtain their consent to such further communication. Information Collection and Use
As described above, we only collect personal information from our visitors when it is voluntarily disclosed, such as to sign up for memberships or to receive our email marketing emails.

If you have opted in to our email newsletter through becoming a member, subscribing via our email marketing system (ActiveCampaign), through our social media channels, or through our website, we will use this personally identifiable information to contact and identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to, your email address, your name, your membership information, and your children’s ages. In some cases, it may be necessary for us to share the information you provide to us with third parties that perform certain services on our behalf (such as sending marketing emails, processing credit card orders, or optimizing social media ad experiences) and that have agreed to maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of your information. All of this information will never be sold or traded to other organizations and is reserved for BADM communication use such as (but not limited to) email marketing communication, digital advertisements, and website optimization. We also use this information to provide you with the most relevant digital content, responding to your requests/inquiries, and membership communication.
From time to time, we may share aggregate information about our website usage and traffic patterns to third parties to comply with various reporting obligations or for business or marketing purposes. Such aggregate information never contains personally identifiable information.
Children’s Use and Parental Rights
At the Bay Area Discovery Museum, we never condition a child’s participation in an activity on the disclosure of more personally identifiable information that is reasonably necessary for the activity, and it is our policy not to collect information from users that are under the age of thirteen without the consent of their parents or guardians. If we receive a communication that indicates it is from a child under the age of thirteen, we will first contact the child’s parent or guardian to provide him or her with notice and request consent to further communication with the child.

If you are a member and have opted into receive our emails, we will add you to our email marketing system. Very rarely, we may provide an offer from another Bay Area not-for-profit organization in a dedicated or sponsored email, but your email address will never be shared directly.
Tell a Friend
If you use the “tell a friend” or share links on our website, we will use the email addresses you provide only to send the email you have requested. They will not be collected or saved in any way.
Photography Permission
From time to time, the Bay Area Discovery Museum takes photographs and video of museum activities and visitors for use in editorial and/or promotional material. By entering the museum, you provide us with permission to take your photo (or photos of your children) for marketing purposes. You grant the museum all rights to use these sound, still or moving images in any medium for educational, promotional, advertising or other purposes that support the mission of the museum. All rights to the photographs or video belong to the museum. The museum is unable to guarantee publication of photos or video. Please let the Front Desk know if you do not consent to being photographed.
