Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

  1. All individuals are expected to treat others, including staff, with respect. The use of profanity, aggressive behavior, or engaging in rude, inconsiderate, or abusive conduct is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, any form of corporal punishment is expressly forbidden onsite.
  2. The Bay Area Discovery Museum (the museum) is designed for children ages 0-8. All children (under 18 years old) must be accompanied and supervised by a legal adult guardian aged 18 or older at all times while on museum premises. All children under the age of 6 need to be supervised at all times by an adult. Required supervision ratio: one adult for every five children. Adults are not permitted entry into the museum without the presence of a child.
  3. Any behavior or activity that disrupts the safe and orderly operation of the museum or interferes with the staff’s ability to perform their duties is strictly prohibited.
  4. All weapons, including firearms, knives, and use of personal defense tools are prohibited on campus.
  5. The possession, use, or distribution of alcoholic beverages and controlled substances (including but not limited to marijuana/cannabis in any form) is strictly prohibited.
  6. Developmentally appropriate risk-taking is encouraged, provided appropriate supervision is maintained. The museum assumes no responsibility for any injuries that may occur.
  7. The operation of motor vehicles on-site during public hours is prohibited without being accompanied by museum staff.
  8. All visitors are required to enter and exit through designated access points. Unauthorized entry, including fence jumping, is strictly prohibited and will be considered trespassing.
  9. Shoes are required, with the exception of infants and all guests in the Tot Spot and other designated special exhibits.
  10. Balloons and outside toys that could disrupt other children’s play are prohibited. These could include balls, kites, toy weapons (swords, light sabers, knives, guns), bicycles, skates, scooters, balance bikes, and similar equipment.
  11. Diaper changes in restrooms only. Use of training potties is allowed only in restrooms. Diaper backpacks with changing supplies are available to visitors near every restroom entrance.

Visitors or members can be suspended from visiting the Bay Area Discovery Museum if repeated offenses occur. Length of suspension is determined by our on-site safety and leadership team.

Social Media Commenting Policy

BADM’s social media pages are a place for our community to respectfully engage with the museum’s content, and with each other. We are committed to maintaining this platform as a space for our audience to ask questions, connect with other families, engage in lively discussion, and provide feedback. This page is regularly moderated by BADM staff, and we ask that you keep the following in mind when commenting:

Be Respectful – Every member of our community, including BADM members, visitors to the museum, partner organizations, and colleagues in the field have the right to comment in this space. Please be polite to all who choose to share their voice here.

The following behaviors will not be tolerated:

  • Abuse, harassment, hate speech
  • Profanity
  • Threats to staff or guests

BADM staff retains the right to remove any comments that exhibit the above behaviors. If you believe a comment is in violation of these stated guidelines, please flag it to media@badm.org.

Online Privacy

The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for the websites located at the URL Home – Bay Area Discovery Museum and all affiliated websites, or information collected at events, or onsite at the Museum.

To fully understand the user’s rights, we encourage the user to read this Privacy Policy. The Museum reserves the right at any time and without notice to change this Privacy Policy simply by posting such changes on our site(s). Any such change will be effective immediately upon posting. Because we want to demonstrate our commitment to user privacy, this Privacy Policy notifies the user of:

  1. What personally identifiable information from the user is collected through the site;
  2. Who collects such information;
  3. How such information is used;
  4. With whom the user information may be shared;
  5. What choices the user has regarding collection, use and distribution of the user information;

What Information We Collect and How We Use That Information

Our program and event registration forms require users to give us contact information that may include their name, email address, phone number, mailing address, interests and similar information. This information is used to identify participants and allow us to provide them with their ticketing/registration information and/or donor acknowledgment form.

  • We do not store sensitive information from our customers or donors, such as credit card details or social security numbers, in our files at the Museum.
  • We do not share customer or donor data with third parties under any circumstances.
  • SMS opt-in consents and phone numbers for the purpose of SMS are not shared with any third parties under any circumstances.
  • Users have the right to access, update, or delete the data that Museum has for them.
Internet Protocol Address

We collect an IP address from every visitor to our site(s). An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to the user’s computer when the user uses the Internet. We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, administer our site, analyze trends, track users’ movements, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for us to improve our site(s) and deliver customized, personalized content. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

Use of “Cookies”

Our site may use cookies to enhance the user experience while using our site. Cookies are pieces of information that some websites transfer to the computer that is browsing that website and are used for record-keeping purposes at many websites. Use of cookies makes web-surfing easier by performing certain functions such as saving the user’s passwords, the user’s personal preferences regarding the user’s use of the particular website and to make sure the user doesn’t see the same ad repeatedly. Many consider the use of cookies to be an industry standard. The user’s browser is most likely set to accept cookies. However, if the user would prefer not to receive cookies, the user can alter the configuration of their browser to refuse it. Our website uses Google Analytics, including Demographics and Interest Reporting, to better understand our audience and improve our content. This helps us provide relevant programs, events, and experiences for our visitors.

Google Analytics collects data such as age, gender, and interests through cookies and other identifiers. This data is aggregated and anonymous—we do not receive personally identifiable information.

Security

All information involving monetary transactions provided to the Museum, such as donation forms, e-commerce and event registrations, is transmitted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. SSL is a proven coding system that lets the user’s browser automatically encrypt, or scramble, data before the user sends it to us. We also protect account information by placing it on a secure portion of our site that is only accessible by certain qualified employees of The Museum. However, no data transmission over the Internet is 100 percent secure. While we strive to protect the user’s information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of such information.

Email

When a user opts-in to receive email from the Museum via any method, the user will automatically start receiving regular email updates from the Museum. The user has full control of their email account and the types of emails they subscribe to. The user can unsubscribe and change their account and subscription settings at any time via logging in to their profile page which can be found via a link at the bottom of an email. The Museum does not share email addresses outside of the organization and never sells users’ email addresses. It is our policy to not send solicitation emails to individuals under the age of 18 (based on our ability to possess knowledge of the user’s age).

Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third party.

Other Websites

Our site contains links to other websites. Please note that when the user clicks on one of these links, the user is entering another website for which The Museum has no responsibility. We encourage the user to read the privacy statements on all such sites as their policies may differ from ours.

Our site contains links to other websites. Please note that when the user clicks on one of these links, tMessage frequency may vary depending on the type of communication but is exclusively event-related. For example, you may receive up to 10 SMS messages per week related to your child’s wellbeing while they are attending camp, or up to 5 messages related to a birthday party you are hosting on our site.
