Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Online Library Expands With 26 New Activities For Kids Including Contributions from New York Hall of Science

Creativity Catapult is a research-backed, expert-curated collection of activities that promote creativity skills in children ages 2-14

Sausalito, CA – The Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM), with its research division the Center for Childhood Creativity (CCC), launched 26 new activities for kids on CreativityCatapult.org – an online collection of free activities to promote creativity development in children ages 2 to 14. The free resource now includes 80 activities that can be filtered by age, topic, number of participants, level of difficulty, duration of time, and skill.

Of the 26 new activities, two were developed by New York Hall of Science and 24 originate from BADM and CCC.

Appropriate for home, school, library, camp, and other learning environments, Creativity Catapult activities help kids develop creative problem solving skills through topics like science, visual arts, making and tinkering, sports, technology, and language. Activities include everything from developing a new version of the game tag to inventing a machine that draws on paper as it moves.

In addition to New York Hall of Science, other esteemed education institutions such as Destination Imagination; DreamYard; Inner-City Arts; Playworks; and KaBOOM! have contributed activities to Creativity Catapult.

Activities in Creativity Catapult are research-backed, with each linking to one or more of the CCC’s “7 Components of Creativity” (imagination and originality, flexibility, decision making, communication and self-expression, collaboration, motivation, and action and movement) established in Inspiring a Generation to Create (Center for Childhood Creativity, 2015).

Creativity Catapult will continue to expand, with new activities being added all the time. The website also provides an opportunity for individuals and organizations to submit an activity for consideration.

Creativity Catapult is made possible thanks to generous charitable support from The Walt Disney Company.
