The Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Try-It Truck is coming to the library this month, on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 3–6 p.m. Children in grades K–5 will discover hands-on scientific experiences for free with the Try-It Truck, an “engineering lab on wheels” that will introduce children to innovative technologies. Participants will be able to collaborate, experiment, and design solutions for engineering challenges. This remarkable opportunity is sponsored by the Sonoma County Public Library Foundation.

This summer we invite children in kindergarten through 5th grade to explore, connect and ignite their creativity on board the new mobile engineering lab—the “Try It Truck”—from our friends at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. San Francisco Public Library is one of the museum’s partners piloting this new initiative with high-quality, hands-on, minds-on STEM creative programming. For an engineering experience, tinker on board and in the Library with high- technology tools such as a laser cutter and 3D printer. Or tackle an engineering challenge as you roam through multiple activity stations that combine hand tools and craft supplies. Jump onboard this 11-foot van and have fun while you’re also fostering 21st century skills like critical thinking, collaboration and creativity! Then, on February 19, BADM kicks off the year of the dog with the return of our annual Chinese New Year celebration.

Bay Area Discovery Museum Announces Access Program for Low-Income Families

The Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) announced that it has joined Museums for All, a signature access program of the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The program will enable low-income families to visit the Bay Area Discovery Museum for a minimal fee of $1 per person with the presentation of an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.
